Free things to do
- Dokk1 on the harbour: reading room, play area and views.
- The Botanical Garden and its greenhouses next to Den Gamle By.
- Marselisborg Deer Park: deer up close, a short bus ride from the centre.
- Aarhus Ø: the architecture around the Iceberg (Isbjerget) and the harbour bath.
- The Latin Quarter: narrow streets with cafés and small shops.
Aarhus with kids
Den Gamle By works for all ages because you can walk into the houses and shops. Moesgaard Museum suits school-age children best. At ARoS, under-18s are free, and for many kids the rainbow on the roof is the best part. Dokk1 has a large play area and is free.
Getting there and venues
The train from Copenhagen Central Station to Aarhus takes about three hours. The light rail (Letbanen) links the centre with Aarhus Ø, the university and the suburbs. Train is on Toldbodgade near the harbour, VoxHall on Vester Allé by Musikhuset and ARoS, and Musikhuset itself is right in the centre.
Where to stay
Stay in the city centre and you can walk to Train, VoxHall, ARoS and the Latin Quarter. Aarhus Ø is quieter and on the light-rail line.
